Sort Paragraphs: Alphabetize & Shuffle
This add-on adds a sort button to Google Docs™: put lists and paragraphs in alphabetical order with one click. It is free.
How to use it
- Select the paragraphs or list items you want to reorder.
- Open the Extensions menu and find Sort Paragraphs: Alphabetize & Shuffle.
- Choose Sort A → Z, Sort Z → A, Reverse order or Shuffle.
What it takes care of
- Your formatting stays: bold, italics, links, images, bullets and numbering.
- Nested list items travel with their parent item.
- Accents and capital letters do not break the order. In Spanish, ñ comes after n.
- Numbers are read as numbers: “Item 2” comes before “Item 10”.
- Blank lines at the edges of your selection stay where they are.
- It works in the body of the document and inside a table cell.
Languages
The menus follow the language of your Google account: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German and Italian. Any other language shows English.
Questions
Nothing happens when I pick an option.
Select at least two paragraphs or list items first. If your list is already in that order, nothing changes.

It says the selection cannot be reordered.
The selection has to be inside one area, for example the body or one table cell. A selection that includes a whole table cannot be sorted. If a paragraph contains something that cannot be moved, nothing is changed.
